I use the deep litter method in the coop and the enclosed run though I only remove some the shavings from the run about once a year. The run gets less poop than the inside part of the coop and is turned multiple times a day by the chickens so the waste there is almost completely composted already. I actually recently shoveled out the run part of the chicken enclosure to add to the bottom layers of my new garden beds so in addition to the less "poopy" shaving from the coop that I shoveled down in
