The main problem people face when becoming established abroad is the desire to have ONE THING — one key product to market — which soon comes to define them. This is the local influencer culture's key downfall — because a change in context can wipe out their entire lifestyle/ revenue stream overnight, leaving them with nothing to make or market. This is why diversification of revenue streams is key. Because in the end, we're actually discussing sustainability. Every life/ business — because emplo

I wouldn't know they were connected for six more weeks. But I spotted the statement as being already managed in the past, rejected it in the present and used my anger as fuel for strategy. It was just a bit of alchemy. 🧞‍♀️ #EnergeticAlchemy #LinguisticFingerprints #RhetoricalAnalysis #EverydayWitchcraft #AjijicTraffickingScandal | Marissa McGregor

Two choices exist: Call if off and put me in touch with my underage autistic son, or allow this destruction to continue. We know what they choose — because who are my son and I in the face of their fallen network? Because I'm detoxing from adrenaline and cortisol, I'm no longer fueled by a hijacked nervous system. Things that would've put me into a panic no longer do — which means fear no longer plays a part. The therapists should've known this might be a likely outcome — if I survived. Which I

Not everyone in GDL/ Ajijic is new enough to require a "soft landing." We don't all need the welcome wagon experience, nor do we want to participate in it. Because others already have their hands full with that niche. It's time for me to meet the people who are going to bring new vocabulary, introduce new strategies, and include new challeges to old ideas. Because inquiring minds are always in search of new challenges. 🥂 #Scholarship #Discourse #Sociology #CommunityBuilding #LifelongLearning |

Honestly, it's not my fault the system is rigged. I'd be a bomb spouse — but a terrible "wife" within the typical Western cishet dynamic. Anyhow. Read about my type of "hetero-ness" here. 👇🌶 https://open.substack.com/pub/marissamcgregorwrites/p/fun-and-games?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android&r=5odiip #softmasc #panpride #queerlove | Marissa McGregor

The last man I dallied with was a doctor with big dreams — and an even bigger ego. I told him I did not need a man to provide me with anything, which actually made me more free to enjoy myself when we spent time together. A couple weeks later, he asked if I might like living in Italy someday. Shocked to be asked about anything future-oriented, I said, "I guess I could get used to that," even though the Lake Como crew would absolutely *not* be my people. Three days later, he said I wanted too muc

I've managed to piece it together: Community Chapel had failed, so we went to a new church. I distrusted everyone and spent my energy hiding as close to nature as I could get. I mean I hid inside rhododendron bushes and snuck off to spend time in woods where they said bad things happened. I spent all my free time with my best friend, Becky. We were Jenni and Becky. We knew we were practically a meme. I liked a boy named Matthew. In retrospect, he was a real — ahem — "troubled kid." I only liked

One of the strangest things about living in Mexico long-term is realizing how fluid you become—socially, culturally, even physically. My appearance has changed over the years. My body has changed. And with that, the way people treat me has changed—sometimes subtly, sometimes dramatically. Respect, patience, curiosity, dismissal. All of it shifts. It teaches you something you can’t unsee: communication isn’t just language. It’s expectation, embodiment, and context. Code switching. If you’ve lived

This "ad" never would've been necessary if they'd off-ramped at the hundred chances I've given them. After targeting, ensnaring, exploiting and utterly destroying me. For years. Because it was built into the structure. They were angry that I refused to serve their machine. As if it was the only option available to me. Until it was the only option available to me. And still, I said no. But when I saw how local land-owners and businesses were being targeted through such predatory practices — and i

The irony is that I became exactly who he would've given anything to be — if only he'd retained the personhood to make it happen. Instead, he chose this. Today we pondered the nature of fame and leadership. Pandora's never had plans or goals, because horses don't really function that way without human involvement. But we're involved, so here we are. 🫶 #CarouselHorse #Mythic #Mane #Pandora #PandorasBoxMX | Marissa McGregor
