One of the first sounds you'll hear when you visit our Wetland Centre is the distinctive call of our Eider Ducks. Instead of the typical "quack" of a mallard, the Eider's have a unique "aah-woo" sound 🔊🎶 This large sea-duck is the UK's heaviest duck and is a firm favourite at the centre - their regular displays and singing always brings a smile to our face! The common eider ducks sound like they are wowing or gossiping about something 😅 Common eider ducks come to Svalbard in Northern Norway to nest during summer. They are super smart and use the patch of land between two dog yards, so that their main predators, the polar foxes, stay away.
