Severe weather is expected to bring subzero temperatures the northern Plains as soon as Thursday, then reach the Mississippi Valley, the Northeast and the Ohio Valley by Sunday.

Winter storm to bring heavy snow and ice this weekend across the southern and eastern U.S.

The National Weather Service says the storm could deliver 8 to 18 inches of snow, with locally higher amounts possible, particularly away from the coast.
